Educational measures to prevent Adolescents¡¯ alcohol consumption in Korea
Choi Eun-Jin

Abstract
This study is to develop educational policy measures to prevent alcohol consumption among adolescents. Studies on alcohol abuse among youth during the past 10 years and governmental reports are examined to review trends and characteristics of adolescents¡¯ alcohol consumption. Minors¡¯ access to alcoholic beverages is prohibited by laws such as the National Health Promotion Act and Youth Protection Act. Alcohol consumption is serious because the rate of drinking is increasing. In addition, most people start to drink alcohol in late adolescent. Governmental reports have shown that often alcohol consumption in early age resulted in violation of laws such as car accidents, violence and other societal problems. Review of studies conducted in foreign nations during the past 10 years showed that there has been little studies on educational studies on adolescents¡¯ drinking problems. To prevent drinking problems among adolescents, health professionals should focus on educational effects, and the influence of mass media. Policy makers and community health workers should focus on strong policies and organizational approaches to prevent adolescent drinking problems.
